Kindel or Sony Reader

Don't know the Sony Reader, but I just got the Kindle 2 and I am in total love with it. I have loved reading since childhood, but as my eyes have gotten more far sighted it has not been much fun to read. font size is adjustable, easy no glare pages, and easy turning of page buttons. 3. Got a Kindle Nearly A Year Ago

Love it! Sony and other newer eReaders may offer color, pictures etc., but if you are simply into reading then the Kindle is great. The other eReaders are not hooked onto wireless so you still have to download first onto your computer/laptop. The beauty of Kindle is that it's on Amazon's "whisper net" and you can download a book in seconds no matter you are without being hooked up to an internet server.

I've traveled with it and have nearly a hundred books in it. The type fonts are adjustable and include those large enough for even the worse sighted. There is no glare on the screen.

I hear Kindle 2 has made an improvement so the page turning devise doesn't get set off accidently, but those of us who own the first model have learned how not to hold the devise so that you can accidentally flip the pages.

If you are an avid reader it's well worth the price: most book titles are 9.99, a few including foreign books cost upwards of 12.00--still less than a lot of hardcovers. Couples who own two can have the same book on both if you buy a second Kindle in the name of the person who bought the first one.

4. I have been researching this because I want to buy one...

I am going with the Sony reader because when I buy a book, I want to be able to keep a copy and burn it to cd so that I will have it. I am one of those people who re-reads books I like. Sometimes I re-read because I want a better understanding of non-fiction that I am reading.

5. you can store up to 1500 titles on the kindle

and Amazon keeps a log of your books so you can access them again if you need them.

6. Avoid the proprietary

Amazon also retains the right to renege on your sale as it suits them, meaning you're not actually "buying" the books at all, merely renting. Kindle has too many issues like this to bother. Always go with DRM-free readers, preferably ones that work with multiple file types.

7. I use an ipod touch as an e-book reader.

It gets the job done AND I can use a variety of formats and even listen to music as I am reading.

8. Sony Reader

Hands down! Much more open format allowing you to obtain e-books from different vendors/providers.
