A DUer recommended her niece's book (Mudbound) to me before I left for Oregon. |

Mudbound is an excellent novel by Hillary Jordan written in a style and voices reminiscent of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. It is, on the surface, a Mississippi farm hardship story set in the post-WW2 1940s. But racism and illicit love are the undercurrents of the Faulkneresque river floods. The farm hardships on the genteel Memphis wife are not unlike those of Susan Ward (Victorian Age) of Wallace Stegner's Angle of Repose.
To whomever recommended this book to me, thanks. I'd like to drop you niece a line if that is possible. PM me.
