If I could be a fictional character, I'd be Brother Cadfael, of Ellis Peters' mystery series.

Brother Cadfael lives in England in the 1100's.

He's a monk, but as a young man he went on Crusades. He knows all about herbs and how to make potions, poultices, etc. with them. He treats the sick and wounded. And he seems really happy.
