Hello !! Looking for a Can't Put it Down - Political/Legal thriller

Don't love maniacs and serial killer type books. I really miss political and legal thrillers - seems people have stopped writing them.

Any ideas?

1. I commented alot more on politics, till it was shown that some like to make decisions

without taking into account many good arguments by many people. When the arguments were ignored, then making the arguments is no longer the method. However it is needed to make the arguments to be able to go to next level, so it is really important how many people fight for ideas they feel are better.


So personally I have not made many political arguments lately.

He's a good writer and his characters are interesting, edgy, funny. He's got quite a long series going. I've only read a couple of them and want to continue but start with the first book.

13. I read them all.

Start with the first one, and work your way up - the last 3 or 4 aren't as good as the first 15 or so.

He used to have another writer write the books, I forget his name (maybe Gruber or something like that) and now Tanenbaum has a different ghost writer who merely mentions the wonderful familiar characters' names without capturing their souls.

There's a new one coming out very soon and I can't wait to read it, even if it won't be as good as the early books...

I got all mine thru the library, except for the first one I read - it was from Ebay in a big box of mixed mysteries.

The Tanenbaum books were among the best I've ever read..

9. Have you Read Larry Beinhart

His "Salvation Boulevard" is very good. Here's a little blurb:

American Hero which was made into the movei "Wag the Dog". You should read the book. It is far more cynical than the movie, and even better.

I've read one or two others by Beinhart, but not Salvation Boulevard, so I'll have to get that one.

16. Reminder about Bernhardt

The last book I read by Wm Bernhardt was very political - involved a trial in the WH basement, if you're still looking for legal/political stuff. Best to start with his first book though, character Atty. Ben Kincaid.

18. It's old...but

All the King's Men by Penn Warren is one of my favorites. Its strength is more beautiful prose and psychological insight than political intrigue but I still read it occasionally.

I heard Charlie Rose interview him and talked about "Spies of the Balkans"; it takes place shortly before WWII and sounds good. I'm ordering it. "Spies of Warsaw" sounds good too.

Good book. The Warsaw book is excellent, too. I'm working to get the rest of his books. I love them.
