Sept 26 starts banned books week |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 10:56 AM by JitterbugPerfume
many years ago the Puritans banned Quaker books. Later certain people found Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass offensive, and banned it. Other banned books include Oh Mice and Men, Catcher in the Rye and even Harry Potter.
President Eisenhower once told a group of college student's "Don't join the book burners. Go into the library and read everything" (not an exact quote)
The first amendment protects us. Read everything , even if you disagree with it . The people who ban books intend to take away our right to free speech . Do not let them

4. Thanks for that. I love reading about what the Stoopid People |
|
think is ban worthy, and why. What shocks me is how petty some of their motives are (trying to ban As I Lay Dying and Fahrenheit 451 for the use of the term "God damn" for instance.) Morans.

Lots of well-intentioned people have banned or tried to ban Hucklberry Finn because of the N-Word.
