Anybody ever made it through DON QUIXOTE? I tried, honestly I did. |

I tried listening to it on audiobook. Got to CD #5 this morning...and then I couldn't take it any more. It was the chapter where Don Quixote and Sancho threw up on each other. For me, that was the last straw--I thought, why am I wasting my time with this?
I can see satirizing novels about chivalry; but why go on and on and on with it?

1. in three different languages, yes. |
|
Remember that it was written as a serial, with chapters coming out one at a time. I think it is a very fine book.
In some ways, Lord of the Rings also starts slow, until you get into it.

7. If you want a suggestion of a great, great classic you will like, try "Lord Jim" by Joseph Conrad. |

8. You must be psychic; I've been thinking about Lord Jim lately. I read the Classics Illustrated |
|
version. In some ways I can identify with Jim.

5. Read and loved it in HS, but it is proof why |
|
writers should not be paid by the word.
Read about 100 pages at a time, then put it down for a month or two. That's how it was published.
(but yes, he does go on and on and on, doesn't he?)

You don't need my blessing - just quit and find something you like better..life is short.
I never read Don Kehoty and I get along alright.

:-) :hi:
Ita...life is short...too short to read something you're totally bored with.
Unless it's required for a class, but even then, there are Cliff Notes.

I read it for a creative writing teacher at SMU a few years ago (when I lived in Dallas). It was a tough read for me.
