She was in my town talking at the public library. I've read her books, though she hadn't made my 'will buy in hardcover' list, but she was brilliant - funny and told great stories. Most importantly, she's doing a series of talks/signings at public libraries to urge people to support libraries - has a couple of great library stories.
So, if she comes to your town, even if you're not a fan think about going to see her...who knows, you (like me) may come home with her new book, purchased from the library to help raise funds.

1. I've never read any of her books but they sound interesting... |
|
I noticed that she had a series called "The Grant County Series". Would you consider putting her in the Fiction Book Series Authors (A-Z) thread here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=208&topic_id=25268&mesg_id=25268If you don't have time let me know and I'll add her series in there for you. Thanks, LS

Thanks, LS, I wasn't aware of the thread. I'll be back to give more details about her stuff, and to read up on some other authors.

she is "difficult" in the sense that her books do not always have happy endings
do not expect stories to be wrapped up in a bow w. karin slaughter, there is nothing cheap or pat here
i have just finished "broken," the last line of that book is simply marvelous in context of the story arc
will look for this new book, seems i'm always a day late and a dollar short, time gets away !!!
another wonderful southern series mystery author is greg iles, most of his stories set around natchez, mississippi

7. I know, no one is safe! |
|
When she started taking questions, she specifically asked that no one give away any spoilers - if you've read Beyond Reach you know it; she said no one would buy the books if anyone gave away the ending and her cats needed cat food.
I've read Iles, and I can't decide about him - Blood Memory was fascinating, but also creeped me out.

8. Reading her latest now - Fallen |
|
I have trouble keeping track of her series, the order of the books, etc. But she tells good stories with remarkably well-developed characters, to the point that you begin wondering how so and so is doing with his or her particular problem, and the like.
