7. I read that about a month ago

I was troubled to hear they are making a movie of the Reacher story "One Shot" and casting Tom Cruise as Reacher. When they film the scene where Reacher bear hugs a Baddie to death with Cruise it's going to look like my Maltese humping my leg unless they find a lot of very small actors to play the villains.

Tom Cruise? Yuck. I love the Jack Reacher novels but just can't wrap my head around Reacher being played by Tom Cruise. Really bad casting choice IMHO.

They shoulda tried out some retired Seals, Rangers, etc., for the part because Cruise is not my Reacher, for sure.

A novel about a black boy born with white skin who can hear the voices of spirits (no, I'm not kidding) growing up in civil-rights-era Mississippi, told from his point of view.

Not half-way through yet. Good dialogue. Any scene with Bryant is a good one.

17. Don't know what to say about this book...

I sure do like the characters but hated the plot. Rivers in England covered over and running underground, damp houses, wet basements, I never think of London the way it's presented here. The most civilized city in Europe has unbelieveable water-sewer problems. Skipped over a lot of tunnel stuff because I couldn't visualize it anyway.

I hope the next one has a more appealing background. The first was set in a theater.

15. Galileos Dream by Kim Stanley Robinson

It is a real Sci Fi masterpiece. Parts of it makes my brain hurt, but it is KSR at his best.

Galileo is transported to the moons of Jupiter to be introduced to some interesting characters and cool science, while in "real time" he is being persecuted for his belief in the Copernicus model of the universe .If you are a hard core lover of Sci Fi , you will love it!

I just collected these from the library and all these authors are new to me, so I have no idea what to expect.

Don't remember where I picked up this title, but it moves fast and it's good so far, just started. About a guy who just gets out of prison and wants to go straight, and walks straight into a gangland situation....

21. Finished two by Coben

"Caught" and "Live Wire", and have now started "Fall of Giants" by Follett.

Gobbling up thrillers and sagas while the summer lasts.

Beginning in September, it will be mostly non-fiction to supplement my volunteer work at a natural and human history museum and participate in the museum's book club.

For that season have finished Dark Star Safari by Theroux and next up is Heart and Blood - Living with Deer in America by Nelson and then Cleopatra by Schiff.

It's the second book of her "First Man in Rome" series of historical novels, finished the first one yesterday.

24. A Bullet for Cinderella by John D. MacDonald

Originally published in 1955, I've never found a print copy of it despite decades of snapping up every JDM book I can find in the used bookstores. I finally noticed that it was available on kindle for less than $5, so I downloaded and read it yesterday. Well worth it, although I may be biased; I'd probably rate him my favorite author.

It has absolutely beautiful art of butterflies (and moths, if I remember) on the insides of the front and back covers.

32. "Drowning Ruth" by Christine Schwarz

I'm about 135 pages in, I have no idea where this book is going, but I'm intrigued.

It's an Oprah's Book Club selection from way back, which is why I picked it out of the stacks -- I've had pretty good luck with those titles.

33. KILLSTRAIGHT by Johnny D. Boggs

The first of a series of two, so far, about an educated Commanche who goes back to his people after having been forced to leave to go to school. Short book, 220 pages, just what I need because I am not in the mood to read lately. Would love to work outside if the temperature goes under 80 - and start making pies and stuff.

His name is Daniel Killstraight and it takes place in 1895 (I think).

34. "Thirty-Three Teeth" by Colin Cotterill (I highly recommend it!)

Against all his expectations, Dr Siri Paiboun has rather enjoyed his first five months in office.
