2. I want to see them too. July 17, 2011 NY Times says that... |

Tom Cruise Agrees to Play Jack Reacher. The movie is scheduled to begin filming this fall maybe it already has? I'm not much of a Tom Cruise fan but I'll still go see it because of the books. Here is the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/18/movies/tom-cruise-agrees-to-play-jack-reacher.html

3. oh good god....yechhh.... |

Reacher is 6'5", blond, blue eyes, in his late 30's, lean, and very intelligent. They could not find any other actor over 5'7"???? ( Cruise's height)
I may just stick to the books, halfway thru the series.

I have read all of them to date and there is no way I would see a movie on them with cruise as Reacher.... way too short just for starters.... I cannot think of anyone that could do the job, maybe The Rock.... But I still most likely would not go to the flick for it...

5. Not only too short, but too...smarmy... |
|
ok, the filmed Reacher does not have to be 6'5"...but at least 6 would do.
Apparently Childs is happy with the choice.
I am not, will pass on the movie.
Remember the good ole days when Connery was such a good Bond?

Almost anyone besides cruise.... but I don't go to movies much anyway and almost without fail any movie that was made from a book that I have read turns out to be a total waste of time, never get close to what I imagine is real from the book....

Meryl Streep would be a better choice. She can at least act.
They'd actually be far better off finding a relative unknown whose physical appearance is at least in the ballpark. There is a reason the author made Reacher very big and tall and strong. Many, many times his sheer physical size and strength are crucial in what happens.
Tom Cruise? I no longer see movies with him because I am sufficiently opposed to Scientology and all the other garbage that man espouses.

10. hmmm...anyone here remember ann rice? |

she screamed yelled kicked and bitched to stop tom cruise from being cast in her film "interview with a vampire" but writers don't get to pick the actors and at the end of the day, cruise was cast as lestat -- and he out performed her expectations and the expectations of everyone in new orleans -- he did a great job
he's a good actor, he is an understated actor, and he has some unpopular personal beliefs/personal lifestyle but he lets himself take the role and do the job
what's filmic is not the same as what goes over in a book, and i have no reason to believe that tom cruise can't do action/adventure -- yes, the mission impossible movies are beyond boring but he's done many other quirky films such as "minority report" that involve action -- if the director is right, he can do this
if your film really isn't any good unless your star is a 6 foot 4 macho man guess what there's a million macho films we don't need any more
