Anyone reading Lunar Park?

Please, please, someone tell me it's worth getting past the Halloween Party! The main character is so irredeemable, soul-less and accountable I have absolutely no desire to continue. I don't care what happens to him and even feel sorry for the bad guys who come in contact with him at this point. The writing is excellent but the author may have drawn his character too finely, if such a thing is possible.
