"The Camel Club" conspiracy theorists vs terrorists & the CIA |
|
The Camel Club is a group of DC consipiracy theorists. One night the club witnesses the murder of a Secret Service agent and quickly realize that they've stumbled onto something bigger than their wildest imaginations.
The plot's pretty far fetched and a bit sloppy but I loved the characters especially the leader of the Camel Club, a ragged dude who calls himself Oliver Stone, who camps out all day outside the White House with an "I want the Truth" sign. Oliver, it turns out, has a past and some very lethal skills that he learned courtesy of Uncle Sam. Even the terrorists come in for some sympathetic treatment--the truly evil characters are the rogue CIA man who organizes the plot and the government official who intends to use it for his own purposes.
This could make some hell of a movie with lots of action and comedy.

I was traveling and I listened to it on the plane, in the airport waiting during a snow delay, and in the hotel. It was very entertaining.
I think I would have preferred to read it rather than listen to it. For one thing, I could have read it faster.
I loved the characters. I want to know more about Adelphia and Kate Adams. I hope they're in a subsequent book.
I enjoy Baldacci's stories. This was a good entertaining "read".

3. I just finished it. I absolutely loved it - especially the list of |

terrorist demands. I agreed with every one -- I wish the US would follow them.
You say, "a bit sloppy". I agree there were a couple of unbelieveable parts:
1. The whole thing with the daughter. Too much of a coincidence that Stone runs into her? Did I miss it? How did he know it was her? And, why didn't he freak out more than he did when she died? Was it just the subtle message we were supposed to pick up by him following her at her apartment?
2. The thing with Stone's mysterous past. That was too hard to believe that this guy is parked in front of the WH for years and no one worked as hard as possible to figure out who he was.
3. I think I could have lived without the Adelphia character. Got sick of her poor english.
