by Joseph Kanon is a great book. I guess the movie version is due this fall starring George Clooney and Cate Blanchett. Steven Soderbergh directs it in black and white a la Good Night and Good Luck noir.
The book takes place during the summer after Germany's surrender at the end of WWII in burned out Berlin. It is an interesting mix of thriller and love story that follows journalist Jake Geismar's search for a murderer. It touches on the politics of the division of Germany and the beginnings of the Cold War as well as the politics of seeking justice for victims of the holocaust. A compelling story...
I highly recommend this book.
