Concerning a freak weather event in the midwest in 1888?
I read the Publisher's Review article (envy me, part of my job involves reading book reviews!) and was thoroughly intrigued.
The minutaie of weather gets tedious in parts, but the author does a good job of making the events that led up to the event undersatndable to decided non-geeks like me. Incredible real-life characters, too.
If you want to read something a bit out of the ordinary in nonfiction, this is a great one.
I can't stop talking about it; if you've read it, you probably can't either, so here's our chance!

bureau as part of the Army Signal Corps, it's absolutely fascinating and pretty funny in parts.
They've been reading it on the NPR station locally. I've heard bits and pieces when the clock radio has awakened me.

I'm right in the middle of the storm now, so to speak.

other day, sounds really kinda spooky! how terrifying to be lost in a storm. my mom told me that grandpa always put a rope between the house and the barn and then to other outbuildings so that he and the other hands on the farm would not get lost going out to milk or feed the animals or whatever. scary!
