What's my name, fool? Has anyone read this book |
|
It's by Dave Zirin
I know Nader is somewhat on the out's here to many but I do like his discription of the book. I did order it from B&N but I'd like to hear from others that have already read the book.
"Out from the greed, myths, freeloading, cover-ups, censorships, and gouging of big time commercial sports comes the clear voice, honest pen and vigilant eyes of David Zirin. Put this book down only to pray, eat and sleep." -Ralph Nader

1. I heard Dave Zirin talk about it on CSPAN2 |
|
Sounds like an interesting book.
Zirin talked about Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising black gloved fists at the 1968 Olympics. It sounds like the book goes into some detail on this incident.
He also talked about Curt Flood being one of the early black ball players in the major leagues. At that time, black players were told to eat on the bus if they were stopping at a restaurant in the South. Flood, being from Oakland, raised hell about this.
Zirin's presentation was entertaining which makes me think he would write a good book.

2. I read it, and I hate sports. Great, great read! |
|
I especially liked the chapters on Jackie Robinson and, "The Greatest" Muhammed Ali, what a champ! Bits about Kobe Bryant and that University sports coach from Colorado, scary. Colorado is not a nice state for women, that's for sure.
Yep, this book had be going..."WTF, that's outrageous, that's disgusting, jerks, right on--you tell 'em...and so on.
