I just started reading "The Case for Hillary"

by Susan Estrich.

Just read the first 20 pages or so, but lots of interesting tidbits already.

In 1984, Estrich was working with Gerry Ferraro and lobbying the Mondale campaign to get her named VP.

They were told forget it because Diane Feinstein was pretty much already chosen and was deep into her vetting.

Then another phone call from the campaign that said Feinstein was out, not because of her husband's finances, but because they were afraid of being too tied to San Fransisco on the campaign.

The final decision came sown to Dukakis or Ferraro. Can you imagine a Mondale-Dukakis ticket? There goes Minnesota.

Estrich knew Clinton was lying through the whole Monica mess because Bill had told her early on.

1. I don't know...

On one hand I am a Hillary supporter, and am glad for any book that advocates for her candidacy...

On the other, I am not a big fan of Estrich. She seems like the token Democratic stooge on Fox who always seems to manage to agree with the whacks, and delights in bashing Democrats!!!

4. She may not be a favorite, but

she is a party insider for over 30 years, and if she's willing to share insider info, it might be a very good book.

Just started so don't know yet, but a promising start.

2. I looked at the book jacket

The case presented there boiled down to, "Won't it be wonderful to have a woman president?!" Sorry, but I'm not voting for XX chromosomes -- I have those myself. I'm looking for quite a bit more in a president. I'd be curious to hear if Estrich ever presents any actual examples of important positions Hillary has taken, exciting speeches she's made, etc.

3. The first and last impression I had of Hillary

was during Bill's first campaign. I was not very politically aware, but the one thing my mind snagged on was Hilary's talk about "national health care." It was something I felt very strongly about. I voted for Bill based on that.

And then (of course) it never happened.

It would be some time before I learned what had actually happened to this "national health care," but I remember feeling (at the time) totally ripped off for my vote.

7. Did Hillary screw up?

I'm no Hillary fan at all, but I had always thought she made a strong effort to get universal health care. Why is it her fault that the Republicans tore it to shreds? I'd sincerely like to hear.

6. The case: We all get amnesia and for get she was/is pro Iraq War

The problems of today are going to incrase exponentially by 2007 primary season:

--Iraq
--Budget Problems
--Health/Natural Disasters

And there will be a new one on everyone's radar:

--The end of the f'ing world (by 2005, temp to incrase by 40 degrees; by 2030, current levels of pollution in atmosphere will reach "breaking point."

That little tidbid, the last one, is from studies at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, not a hot bed of leftism. The Global Warming debate is over. It's not if but when.

There is nothing like a global death sentence to focus the attention on real competence and vision.

We are so screwed!
