1. Has anyone started reading this? Where is Terrya? |
|
Isn't Terrya the one who nominated this?
We are halfway through the month!

4. I read it over Christmas, it is most excellent |
|
he "almost" explained how we got into the war in Iraq and the author was sympathetic with reasons of some of the ex-pats. What will blow your mind is page after page of missteps by the government.
It was listed in a few places as among the best books of 2005. I've read them all (or it seems that way) but this is the best. It seems balanced and I've not heard any criticism of it. It will curl your hair...it's astonishing how incompetent ideologues are.

5. So far the best part is the explanation of the title |
|
I am not far into it - but I was fascinated by the way that the nickname "Assassin's Gate" is taken by the author, and then when he finds out the truth about the nomenclature, and it is not so grandiose.
How the Iraqi's don't even know about that name and call it that something totally different that is more relevant to them.
That entire concept just parallels the differing perceptions of this war.

6. just finished it. ( i know, I'm late to the party) |
|
but it is chilling in many ways.
clearly there are criminally negligent people still in office. A book worthy of a read. and possibly a second volume.
