Recommendation - FDR, depression era politics |
|
Can anyone recommend a book on FDR or depression era politics for me please? This morning I was doing some thinking and realized that I would like to know more about these topics. Thanks!

1. Studs Terkel's' 'Hard Times- An Oral History of the Great Depression' |
|
May I be so bold as to recommend, Studs Terkel's' 'Hard Times- An Oral History of the Great Depression'. Although it focuses less on national policy, the interviewed do touch on how particular policies motivated their thought processes.
Since he interviews such a wide range of individuals (hobo's, executives, house-wives, etc.), the reader gets a pretty good idea of national economic policy on a very micro-scale.

2. Well, if you're still looking |

Here are a couple that I very much enjoyed:
"A Nation in Torment" by Ellis
"The Age of Reform" by Hofstadter does a good job (somewhat dated) of chronicling the period from the turn-of-the-century to FDR in terms of helping you with some historical background.
