Arc of Justice by Boyle is a great read |

I just started it last night. I had intended to read for an hour and then go play with fire (glassmaker) but I couldn't put it down.
The story of a black man in Detroit in 1925 who moves into a white neighborhood. Long story short, Clarence Darrow defended him on murder charges when someone in the white crowd gets killed.
The odd thing to me, was all the talk, by racists, of moral values. The cry was the country's moral structure was being destroyed by blacks and integration. Sound familiar?
What a mean species we are.
Anyway, great read. Reads like a mystery/thriller. I love "can't put down" nonfiction.

I couldn't put the book down.
A fascinating story, so well written that you really feel like you are living back in the mid-20s.

It is a great history for Darrow fans as well.
An amazing look at the USA (Detroit in particular) in 1925.

3. What a tragic story though |

Sweet was not convicted but he basically lost everything anyway; his wife, daughter and brother all died of TB. The trial, unfortunately didn't really change anything. It took a long time before there were laws prohibiting discrimination in housing. Still a very good book.
