"Three Cups of Tea--One Man's Mission to Promote Peace...One School at a Time" |
|
by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I haven't finished this book, but it's a fascinating study of how tolerance and understanding of other cultures can achieve better results than sanctions and war. Without giving too much information, it's the true story of an American climber who promises to build a school for a village in Pakistan that sheltered him after he became lost on an expedition to K-2. Can be a bit melodramatic, but the story is well worth reading. If only the book's lessons could be learned by members of the current administration and the more hawkish members of our military.

I came here to see if anyone else had posted about it. I loved this book. What an incredible story! It's a very uplifting book, especially for anyone interested in literacy, education and the pursuit of peace.

The co author, David Oliver Relin, was interviewed by Thom Hartmann. Greg Mortenson is an inspiring person. I'm almost finished with the book and there hasn't been a disappointing page.
It prompted me to look for some You Tube videos of his interviews and speeches. Then there were links to other videos of that part of the world. I took some scary drives via those videos.
The book may have come out a couple of years ago but it's timely right now.
