Armageddon in Retrospect - Kurt Vonnegut |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 10:39 AM by Jim__
This is a post-mortem publication of some previously unpublished Vonnegut essays and stories.
I've only read the first 3 chapters. It's interesting. After the Introduction, there is a copy of the letter Vonnegut mailed to his family when he got to Paris after his POW stint. His family probably didn't know he was still alive. You can see Vonnegut's style developing in the letter. He describes his experiences as a POW. Toward the end, he tells about different things that happened and the number of his fellow POWs who were killed in each incident; ending each story with, "But not me."
The 2nd chapter is an essay on his experience in Dresden. It's a thoughtful essay, missing the surrealism of "Slaughterhouse-five"; but the narrative is there.
I don't know how the rest of the book will pan out. So far, it looks like an interesting picture of Vonnegut developing his writing skills.
