Good Calories, Bad Calories |
|
by Gary Taubes.
Has anyone read this? I hate the title, but the information and explanations about how we've been mislead by the scientists and organizations who're supposed to be providing us with the best information so we can make good choices for optimal health is astounding. It sounds like a fluffy little book, but it's not. This information really needs to be more widely disseminated instead of hidden. I highly recommend it.

1. it's not rocket science |
|
udo erasmus' book "fats that heal fats that kill" predated this book by decades and was on the same basic points.
the information about healthy eating is hardly hidden for anybody who cares. especially in the age of the internet. most people eat like crap because they are lazy and don't care, not because they don't have easy access to how to eat right.
nobody sits down to a meal of fettucine alfredo, a big glass of coke, and some chocolate cake and thinks it's HEALTHY.

The information is not out there in the general knowledge arena. I cannot convince even a single doctor to consider what's in this book and the thought of reading it is apparently far too much to ask. Far too many organizations that are charged with distributing correct information on diet and lifestyle continue to push the low-fat, high carb lifestyle that's gotten so many into a seriously unhealthy state. Why is that and how is it allowed to continue? It's such a simple thing to change. You can't very well do the right thing, if you don't have the correct information.

5. the information is out there |
|
it's frigging everywhere - magazines, books, the internet, tv, etc.
people are generally fat and unhealthy because they don't want to make the changes to eat right.
because undoing habits is hard and uncomfortable

Did you even read what I wrote? Did you look at the book? Have you seen a doctor ever? The information contained on those sites is the information that's wrong, that we've been fed that just doesn't work and actually contradicts the scientific evidence. That's the information that's making us unhealthy and fat! And your response is exactly what I get from my doctor! If you don't have the right info, you can't get healthy. Why do you think that people have been endlessly dieting the way they've been told to do it forever, yet Americans are fatter and less fit than they've ever been? The studies that prove what I'm saying are in the book, the explanations about where we went wrong is there and if you take the time to read it it all makes sense. Much more sense than what has not worked for so many for at least the last 30 years.

10. I guess a doctor thinks he might know medicine better than the average patient reading a book |
|
I think I'll go explain to the airline pilot a book he should read to understand landing planes before the holidays.

11. Doctors are not required to keep up with science, sadly. |
|
My doctor has refused to read any research I've suggested or given to her. What she learned in med school, 25 years ago is all she wants to know. Very sad.
If your doctor doesn't read, you surely can be better informed about many things. Your analogy has no relevance in this instance.
