but maybe not the most accessible read if you don't have a bit of prior knowledge on the details of his life i recommend watching ken burns' documentary (netflix has it) before reading to familiarize yourself.

and got through a few hundred pages so far. Bought the eBook and downloaded it into my Nook. It's HUGE (965 pages) and not the sort of thing you read from cover to cover. And this is just Volume I!
From what I understand, Twain wrote the thing in fits and starts and never intended it to be a comprehensive or chronological autobiography-- it's a collection of stories and anecdotes in no particular order.
These anecdotes are, as you would expect from Twain, generally wonderful and often enlightening reads, but just not meant to be read in one gulp. You pick the thing up every so often, go through a few dozen pages, absorb what you read, and then pick it up again when ready for the next dose.
Dunno about your finances, but I would seriously suggest you buy it if you can just to have it around. It's that kind of book.

3. Kind of what I expected. |

I want to look it over before I buy it. What did the ebook cost you? I've been thinking about getting a kindle, but haven't made the leap yet.
