Anyone watch Pawn Stars on The History Channel? |
|
We're in Vegas for Christmas and went to the pawn shop. It was very interesting and different from what we expected. Much smaller. Dirty. And most of the cool merchandise that is in the shop for the show wasn't there.
We did see the guy who owns it though. He was very friendly.
But his stuff was priced way too high.
Anyhow it was interesting.

That guy reminds me of Bruce Willis for some reason.

2. Yes he does look like Bruce |
|
He has a very friendly face. Seems like a really nice guy. He was letting people take pictures with him. One guy told him he should charge for the pictures. He laughed.

I've found it both interesting and a bit (godforbid) educational. As I understand it, he/they sell a LOT of their stuff online. As for priced too high, I'm not surprised as that place is going to become a tourist-y spot with another season about to start.

4. A pawn dealer once told me that they need to be able to charge 4x as much |
|
as they pay for an item. So if you have a 10k necklace they'll only give you 2500.00. Seems pretty greedy to me.

5. I watch it all the time. It's funny. |

I used to drive past that place occasionally when I lived in Vegas. Never went in, though.
There are more pawn shops in Vegas than gas stations (not really, just seems that way).

8. I haven't seen the show, but did go into our pawn shop here and I |
|
felt sad. All that stuff was brought in to exchange for money.....to get fast cash to live on. The guy behind the counter of the jewelry area seeing me said "a lot of this stuff was traded in so they could upgrade"..... like I believe that...... I just felt very sad in there. I haven't been back.

9. People getting rich off of other people's misery.......... |
|
and misfortune tend to piss me off. Yes, I've watched the show a few times, but those cocky bastards always want to steal every item people bring in. If they can't make at least triple what they have into an item they won't even consider doing business. I heard the "old man" say they have to do it because of their tremendous overhead. :eyes: Anyway, they're parasites dealing off the misfortune of others. They're in the same category as war profiteers as far as I'm concerned.

10. Thing is about pawn shops and what I typically buy... |
|
I'm a video gamer, and I absolutely love getting my stuff used. I have bought several games from pawn shops. The thing is, I have heard many, many horror stories online about kids who have user parents steal their kids' games and then pawn them off to pay for their next fix.
Too many of those and I get extremely hesitant about even buying at a pawn shop anymore, thinking about the possibility of that game in my hand going through that same process.
