Alec Baldwin examined at hospital after 911 call

This story makes me wonder what will be revealed at some point in the future that will make me want to puke. I like Mr. Baldwin as an actor, but not sure I will go much further. I just felt like posting something I guess.

Official: Actor, daughter argued and she said he threatened to take pills

NEW YORK - Alec Baldwin, a star of NBC’s “30 Rock,” was examined Thursday at a hospital after his daughter called 911 saying he had threatened to take pills after they argued, a law enforcement official said.

Baldwin’s daughter called 911 at around 12:10 a.m. from his Central Park West apartment, according to the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

“This was a misunderstanding on one person’s part. Alec was quickly released from the hospital; he’s completely fine and will be at work today,” the 51-year-old actor’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, said in a statement.

1. We know they have had a highly charged relationship...

Baldwin is a hyperemotional type, who, I could easily imagine making empty threats for effect. THe daughter is (from previous incidents) apparently fairly hyperemotional and impulsive herself. (Probably not unlike most teens her age) I suspect this is much ado about nothing-- a heated argument that led to one of them calling the other's bluff.

I remember being a sometimes bratty teen. I certainly have experienced my share of sometimes bratty teens. Parents and their teens can sometimes have confrontations that the rest of the world could readily over interpret. I give them both benefit of the doubt.

BTW...at the time of the infamous taped call, I did a poll here at DU and asked parents if they ever said what he said or close to what he said to his daughter in anger. Only 10% of the respondents claimed that they hadn't.

5. extreme in choices. never said an unkind word to say something as harsh as baldwin

we dont use shut up in house. we ask the person to stop or be quiet.

about 6 months ago oldest was naggin naggin naggin after the youngest and i told son. shut up.

that is the harshest, or most unkind i have done. but unkind it was.

Whether it is an authentic threat or just meant to torment the child, it is still painful.

I'm questioning whether or not it was a smart-assed comment that the daughter may have "chosen" to take literally (in anger).... Who knows :shrug:

9. There is something upside-down about this situation.

Threatening suicide by pills is something a teen-age daughter might do in a heated argument with her father or a bi-polar wife might do in a manic episode. So this seems completely out of character for Alec Baldwin, whom I regard as the epitome of refined machismo.

Malkovich, maybe. But not Baldwin.

11. I find it humorous we feel confident to comment on this..

situation as if we were there, involved and not getting this through a media that loves to blow things up out of proportion and create news instead of report it.
Every family dynamic is different and yet many still get great results at raising kids even though they didn't use the same handbook as other successful parents.
did he threaten suicide? maybe, probably? Was it a good choice if he did? Probably not and sure he will rethink that. Baldwin is no dipshit no matter what you might think of him as an actor or person. Look, I just did it there, I don't know the guy except through interviews and movies I've seen and read yet I felt comfortable to defend him like that. Oh well, me, I love the guy, he's an unabashed liberal and funny as hell.
