I don't see her as innovative or a genius.

She is a copy of Grace Jones & Madonna with less something...I don't know what it is but I really just don't buy her crap.

43. Non-sense Words
She sings in jabberwocky. Non-sense in other words.

Usually it is attributed to poetry.

Okay, more like jabbewocky+scat.

Not saying she is everyone's cup of tea, I don't like everything she does, but I get why she is doing it. but there is more to her than just being a pop singer.

8.  I love her. Listen to her "unplugged sometime. Her voice is fabulous.
She is very intelligent and musically well educated. She is a graduate of Julliard. She does a lot of this stuff, I think to grab headlines, and it works. She is actually sort of mousy under all the makeup and hair but she does have a great body and it a decent dancer. I love "Bad Romance" though it took me awhile to get past all the foo foo!

Art is subjective... I always feel that those who dis another's taste don't even begin to understand art, and therefore have no say in the matter.

Edited to say that lyrically, her stuff seems very cerebral... once you get past the techno beat. I know people who love the techno... not my cup o' tea, but I enjoy seeing others enjoy music of all sorts. We are all individuals with individual perspectives... you probably don't like Motorhead, for example, and I love, love, love Motorhead. It doesn't mean that Lady G is better or worse, or that Motorhead are better or worse... it just means you like Gaga and I like Motor. :) I say potato and you say poTAHto... same veggie:)

Lady Gaga Says 'Bad Romance' Video Is About 'Tough Female Spirit'
Clip premieres on her site Monday.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Lady Gaga may already have plenty of celebrity friends these days, but in the Francis Lawrence-directed video for "Bad Romance" (the first video from her forthcoming release, The Fame Monster), there's a devilish group of supermodels who have their eyes on making Gaga their newest bestie.

"I knew ability as a director is so much higher than what I could ," Gaga explained to MTV News last week. "There's this one shot in the video where I get kidnapped by supermodels. I'm washing away my sins and they shove vodka down my throat to drug me up before they sell me off to the Russian mafia."

As if being kidnapped by supermodels before being sold off to the Russian mafia isn't bizarre enough, Gaga also decided to step up her fashion game in the clip and include some razor-blade sunglasses — yep, razor-blade sunglasses.

"I wanted to design a pair for some of the toughest chicks and some of my girlfriends — don't do this at home! — they used to keep razor blades in the side of their mouths," she explained. "That tough female sprit is something that I want to project. It's meant to be, 'This is my shield, this is my weapon, this is my inner sense of fame, this is my monster.' "

26. She's got a mind, no question...
Thanks! I'm happy to see my first impression was right:)

Elvis was told to keep his day job by the first record producer he sang for, and it was a fluke that The Birds recorded that Dylan song that pushed them to the top of the charts... they didn't like Dylan, but their producer invited him to the recording sessions for their first album (they were still The Jet Set) so as a courtesy, they learned his song... Mr. Tambourine Man... made them all famous.

I think people limit themselves. My boyfriend, for example, never liked anything but punk and metal. He's since changed his tune... pardon the pun:) And he realized he was imposing limits on himself... he was too cool to listen to anything else, donchano;) He listens to just about everything I like now... he's become a huge Roxy Music fan... Johnny Cash... all sorts of bluegrass and things he would never be caught dead listening to.

I withdraw any "Gaga is crap" comments I may have made... thank you, saracat, for making me realize I wasn't practicing what I was preaching!!

28.  Hey Thank you. I am gonna look up some of the bands you mentioned.
I want to expand my horizons. There has been a lot a really interesting stuff lately and I have had to adjust myself from my olf fart attitude about their being nothing good out there. I don't like it all but I decided to make an effort to get to know the new stuff. I still don't like most rapp no matter what but I think that rapp could be on its way out. Too much other stuff is coming in and a lot is retro inspired. Gaga herself is sort of Bowie esque, and a lot of singer songwriter types are coming back.

Jackie Greene! I've seen him twice so far this year. My daughter is absolutely in love with him, so I gave him a listen... he's very, very talented. You can tell he's inspired by Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead, but he's very original and amazingly talented.

http://www.jackiegreene.com/

Not to give you musical whiplash or anything... oh, but I enjoy the whiplash myself:) You need to hear The Woolly Bandits! Here is their latest video, Woman of Mass Destruction. Christa is so freaking hot! Her hubby, Rick, is way cool. They played at my friend's 50th birthday:) They were Sky Saxon's back up band on his very last tour before he died... Christa sang on a Michael Jackson tune too... they are such nice people. They are more garage rock.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh4Uwv0gpaw

Try Tiamat! OMG! I love them so... this is a particularly haunting tune...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhO15KRP0ec&feature=related

Then, for final whiplash... Turbonegro!

"From the ashes of this golden age of confusion,
the denim recruits came to be
known as the apocalypse dudes."

9. We're getting old...
Every new generation needs their Elvis, Beatles, Devo, Madonna, GaGa to make the old folks say, "HUH?"

I love her fashion sense and creativity in that regard, and she seems very genuine when interviewed. I think her music both sucks and blows, but I'm a devout metal head with bluegrass, classical, and jazz tendencies who still wears jeans and band t-shirts at age 52, so what do I know?

17. I don't think it is age. Though it did cross my mind. I will say
IMHO I think her outfits are juvenile. IT looks like stuff that I designed before I found Chanel in the 5th grade.
i see her outfits as fun but not serious.

When Grace Jones did crazy it was new. Now the copies that Gaga makes look silly to me. But hey, I haven't taken my Cymbalta today. So maybe in a few days I won't be so harsh.

I had my first Chanel suit when I was 14... it was coral with chartreuse lining... and the signature lion's head buttons... it would be considered garish today, and it was shocking to see that color from Chanel back then. I've always loved a good Chanel suit, but lean toward Jones NY, Prada, Cavelli, Armani and Versace these days, but my perfect costume for any day is Levi's and a cotton t-shirt, preferably with a metal band logo on the front.

I think Grace Jones took herself a whole lot more seriously than does Lady Gaga.

Shoot... I don't take anything but allergy pills, and I can wax and wane on the harsh myself:)

10. A product of hype, IMHO. Pure Media Hype.
I loved Madonna when she started in the 80's and nobody heard of her, hype propelled her beyond where she might have gone, who knows.

Love me some Grace Jones, though, who I think earned her chops, late 70s and early 80s.

14. GaGa is a lot more talented than madonna , IMHO. GagGa can really sing and compose. Madonna was just
a dancer and a true product of media hypw which she was a genius at getting. Gaga is a triple threat. She can dance and sing(tThough I don't like everything she does) and compose, is a Julliard Grad and creates her own "Hype". She is actually quite mocking and there are lots of different levels to her music and her message. The costuming isn't to be taken seriously. She is kind of a hybrid "performance artist"

and has a lot of talent as a singer and songwriter which neither Brittney or Madonna do. She is rocking techno pop for exposture and as "performance art". The others take themselves seriously.GaGa isn't bubblegum. If you take it that way, you aren't "getting " it.
