MSNBC is saying Bret Michaels should lie down and relax. Screw that! |
|
If I had been through what Bret has been through and I felt good enough right now to walk around and do my thang, I'd damn sure be doing it. Who wants to lay around and relax knowing you could drop dead at any moment. I'd be doing whatever I could to a) distract my mind from thinking I could drop dead at any moment, and b) live as much life as I can in the meantime.

1. I am a type 1 diabetic like Bret. And I was told by my doctor that |
|
we have increased risk of stroke and heart attack, kidney and liver problems and all that good stuff. Oh well. You just have to live your life one day at a time. At least he lives it fully.

2. I gotta say he has been pretty inspirational |
|
I watched Celebrity Apprentice expecting to hate him, I was amazed at how hard working and creative he was. And very much an advocate for people with diabetes.

But watching other people in similar situations is very inspirational.

4. I am Type II - and I understand how much more difficult to manage Type I. |

The weird thing is that when I was diagnosed, back in the late 80's early 90's, I remember reading an interview with a rocker who was Type I. It was a really great interview and really helped me understand that this was a disease that could be managed and that I could have a full life. Yep, it was Bret!

he's been through my neck of the woods a few times, performing live. you'd never know he had diabetes the shows he's done. granted poison stood for all the excess that was hair metal back in the day, but brett is definately one of the good ones. i'm sure there are others, but he's the highest profile one right now.

5. Context? Is MSNBC dispensing medical advice or giving him the brushoff? |

8. He as a kind of neighbor before they 'blew up'. |

I want to say that Bret is a good egg. I wish him nothing but the best, and hope he takes care of himself in just the way his body asks him to.
