Ten musicians to avoid... I want to thank some nutjob on the reich for compiling this |
|
list. Not that there are many of them, but now I know some more cretins to avoid. Charlie Daniels -- has been a particularly vocal critic of the Obama administration.
Ted Nugent -- this psycho needs no introduction.
Gretchen Wilson -- has a history of supporting Republican candidates.
Johnny Ramone -- once called Ronald Reagan “the best President of my lifetime."
Amy Grant -- has lent her voice to Right-leaning causes for many years and has maintained a friendship with former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara for many years
Taylor Swift -- her songs are traditional girls-meets-boy love songs and are safe, middle of the road pop ditties with a hint of twang. The lyrics describe her as not a woman, but as a “careless man’s careful daughter.” She also performed at an invitation-only fundraiser for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in June 2010.
50 Cent -- expressed his support for Bush in the pages of GQ. He called the President “a gangsta” and said that if he hadn’t been a convicted felon, he would’ve voted for Bush. He also defended Bush against Kanye West’s allegations of racism in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, stating: "The New Orleans disaster was meant to happen. It was an act of God."
Avenged Sevenfold -- this "band" includes conservative political messages in their songs. The band even markets T-shirts depicting an American flag and the slogan “Love It Or Die.”
James Hetfield -- The Metallica front man and principal songwriter has long spoken out against repressive taxation.
Jeff “Skunk” Baxter -- guitarist for the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, is an "expert" on and an advocate for missile defense systems. Not a half-dollar worth of "talent" in the whole bunch. No loss.

Easily done to avoid just about all of them.
Used to love the Ramones, and I wonder if Johnny's remark was made tongue in cheek.
Met James Hetfield many years ago (pre millionaire days). He didn't seem like a raging repuke at the time, but you know time and money change a lot of things.

4. Ad John Rich of Big and Rich to that list. |
|
He wrote an anthem to John McCain during the Presidential campaign.

5. I don't hire or fire* artists for their politics |
|
I do for their talent, or lack of it. I have to say I don't recognize half the names above and I think the other ones are very minor talents.
I do hire one right wing nutjob fairly frequently: Robert Duvall is one of the best character actors in the business and lights up the screen whenever he appears in a film. If he's crazy off screen, that's his problem.
*hire or fire means buying their stuff or avoiding it.

6. Johnny Ramone is really easy to avoid. |
|
He's DEAD. Very dead in fact. He and Dee Dee are buried over at Hollywood Cemetery on Santa Monica Blvd. He's near Douglas Fairbanks Sr & Jr.
I never understood what people see in Jeffery Skunk Baxter. I really like the solo in "Reelin In The Years" but that's it. There was a time when three of my friends, within the first minutes of our conversation, said "Oh and I'm working on a project with Jeff/Skunk." This is within two weeks. Nearly everyone in the music industry has worked with him except me. He knows me. I'm the guy that is around a lot of his friends who is nice to him.... for some reason other than working with him.
I don't think he likes me though. Just a feeling.
BTW at the Hollywood Cemetery the real challenge is to find the grave of Virginia Rappe. She is the woman Fatty Arbuckle supposedly raped and killed. Its over by the east wall I am told however I have never found it.

7. re: Skunk and Reelin' ... |
|
I'm pretty sure that was Elliott Randall who played the solo on Reelin' In The Years.
They used a LOT of different guitar players on the studio sessions, including Larry Carlton, et al.

I just thought the "piddely piddely" riff sounded like Jeff. Normally I hate that but it works. I think he is a real sloppy player and ... why doesn't he like me? All the rest of his friends do.
Thank you very much for your correction.

12. I think you meant "accused of rape" |
|
After three trials, Arbuckle has been completely exonerated. Even though it was too late to save his career.

My error. At the time i wrote my post I had forgotten that it did result in criminal charges. I stand corrected for the second time on this post.
I still have not found the grave. It is a fascinating place should you ever desire to go.

8. After what happened to the Dixie Chicks, |
|
the ENTIRE country music 'establishment' can f**k off. I never cared for them in the first place. The country music establishment is the epitome of the old south. An openly classist society who demands that everyone knows their "place".

11. I already avoid these people anyway. |
|
Taylor Swift's got beady eyes.
Amy Grant-typical repuke. Espouses Christian "values" while she was cheating on her husband with Vince Gill.
Gretchen Wilson- a tobacco chewin' woman is a complete and utter turn off from the start, let alone her yee-haw crappola music.

13. Ramones top Punk band of all time. Can't give them up. |
|
The rest are off my radar.
50 cent no surprise he can't vote and it would have been wasted anyway.
