Voting method questioned after Bristol survived over Brandy |
|
After Brandy was booted from “Dancing With the Stars” Tuesday night, a solid source at “DWTS” told me, “People here went crazy. “Not only was everyone stunned that Bristol will be in the finals,” the staffer said, “it just made everyone realize the voting system really needs to be changed. This is going to lead to a reworking of the entire voting system.

1. This is a repeat of the Adam Lambert / American Idol vote rigging |
|
These kinds of viewer voting shows encourage this kind of behavior, especially when a religious (anti gay) or political (Sarah's daughter) component is in play.
The whackos have too much influence on the results.

8. I have heard from 6 friends this week who are fans of this show and are outraged |
|
Most are non political types. A couple of them don't even vote. I helped one register two years ago so she could vote for Obama.
All of them are outraged over what the teabaggers did to steal this vote on DWTS. One of them forwarded me an article she found where Palin fans were quoted, claiming to vote literally hundreds of times. My friend was outraged and is now organizing a letter writing campaign.
Another friend has sent out an email to her entire contacts list asking everyone to vote next week to prevent Caribou Barbie, Jr from winning.
One organized a group on Facebook. Another wrote her congressman.
These are all, as I said, non political ladies who have been inspired to be activists because something they care about has been tainted.
There is great value in this.
I have never watched one episode of this show or American Idol and have many times, right here on DU, criticized fans of this mindless entertainment. In spite of the controversy, I do not plan on watching the finals next week.
But I am thrilled to see my 6 friends inspired to correct a wrong. That is indeed a beautiful thing.
So yes, this really is important to some people. If we were smart, we would seize this opportunity to keep these new activists involved and aware.

11. I don't have live TV feed and have never watched it |
|
However, I can not take it seriously. My students know better to bring it up in class.
Yes I tend to be a bit of a curmudgeon

5. I think it's hilarious. |
|
When people realize their voting doesn't matter, they'll stop voting. People stop voting, the sponsors lose money - BIG money. DWTS stops being the cash cow it is. And all because of dumbass Bristol Palin! BWAhahahaha!

while I've never watched that show and certainly wouldn't now due to that girl, but -
I think this whole "voting" issue is resonating with people who never once stopped to consider that voting for our political candidates is just as rigged sometimes. And they're equating that cheating mindset with the teabagger/republican crowd.
Maybe it's a wake up call for all those non-political types.

17. freepers were ecstatic the other night. |

They've found a glitch in ABC's email system that lets you vote from multiple email addresses. ABC doesn't require you to validate your email so you can put in anything (xxx1@gmail.com, xxx2@gmail.com, etc) and vote again and again. All the teabagger websites are spreading this around. They say this will be a huge win in the "culture war." It's kind of funny because they use to side against unwed mothers as part of their stupid culture war and now they are championing someone whose "fame" is centered around her unwed motherhood status.
The best part is that all of this is backfiring. DWTS has a huge audience and most know that this is going on. The DWTS boards are full of angry folks who like the show and are pissed at the teabaggers. A lot of non-political folks are saying this really turns them off to the tea party and the Palins. Sarah's being bashed more on the DWTS boards than she is on here. They are saying that the no-talent daughter is just like her no-talent mother.

Repuke spawn like to win by any means available, but even this is sick. I knew when they had one political criminal on the show, anything went. To bad it ain't the ratings.
