"Thor" is a tremendous movie |
|
Very, very good. We enjoyed it a great deal.
I put it right up there with the Iron Man films, just behind Dark Knight (best comic book film ever).
Possibly my favourite touch in the film was the way they did Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge. In the Marvel comics, it always looked like a pride bridge, which probably wouldn't have worked on the big screen. But the version in the film is just gorgeous.
Good villains, too. Nice job with the background, and they stuck fairly close to the mythos.
If you go, be sure to stay past the credits. As usual for these pre-Avengers films, there's a final scene. This one sets up the villain for the Avengers movie coming out next year.

first time I ever disagreed with Roger Ebert on a movie review.
And Heimdall is one major badass.

Saw it in the 3D....which was distracting at first but really cool by the end...
I would put it a touch behind Iron Man...a bit ahead of The Hulk (which I also thought was good)...

I had a free pass, but they wouldn't let me see it in 3D, so I saw it in '2D'. The theater was still packed, and I went to the 12:15pm show too. I want to go back and see it at the IMAX in 3D. It was very good. :D

9. Loved the little touches. |
|
Like the appearance of Clint "Hawkeye" Barton, the "Culver University" coffee mug on Prof. Selvig's desk (Culver University is where a lot of the action took place in the Ed Norton Hulk movie). Loved the line "Is that one of Stark's?" "I don't know, the guy never tells me anything." The cosmic cube, which we'll see more of in Captain America and The Avengers. The Infinity Gauntlet was supposedly in the Asgardian vault, but I didn't catch it. Loved the cameos by Stan "The Man" Lee, J. Michael Straczynski, and Walt Simonson. The Warriors Three were a lot of fun and should get their own movie, and Sif could join them. Maybe the next movie can include Balder the Brave.

It's right at the beginning when Jane gets out of the car/researchtank (practically the only advantage of seeing it in 3-D). Also the Infinity Gauntlet is right at the start of the first pan of Odin's treasure room, it's in the back of the screen.

how did the 3D work? I read it was filmed flat and made 3D in post, so we saw it flat.
I'm not familiar with the Infinity Gauntlet. Is that from the comics? I never read much Thor back when I was a comics guy, I tended to Spiderman and the mutants.

15. They filmed it flat and converted it |
|
It looks better in 2-D though (the screen is brighter in 2-D cause 3-D doesn't translate well when the projector bulb is brighter......3-D sucks). The Infinity Gauntlet was more of Adam Warlock/Thanos kind of thing, it held gems that controlled certain aspects of the universe and when they all came together in the gauntlet, it gave the wearer unlimited power.....blah, blah, blah.
Now in the Captain America movie they filmed it flat except for the special effects scenes, which were filmed in 3-D. They then converted the other stuff.
