do pickers hate Mike and Frank now? |
|
Did the boys betray pickers by publicizing "picking" so much, inspiring many competitors, and making it harder to make a buck?
I had an uncle that was a picker, a long time ago.
I didn't know it was called that.

pickin' Competition. The demand for junk is high, at least until Atlas shrugs.

And a lot of different expertise.

I like that show. And Pawn Stars.
American Restoration isn't doing it for me.
History Channel is so much better since it quit being about history. :hi:

7. I do enjoy American Pickers and I learn a lot. |
|
Funny how I never come across any real finds when I do it, though!

5. I used to be a specialty picker - old radios... |
|
What killed my picking hobby was the advent of eBay. Once people started knowing the fair market value of their antique radios, things suddenly became more expensive for me. ;-)

6. I enjoy the show, but so many of the people they visit really have a mental illness. |
|
They have yards and buildings jammed full of cluttered and crumbling junk that is unprotected or cared for and they just cannot bring themselves to part with it, as if people will be coming through every day to offer them money for their stuff.
At least Mike and Frank appear to be honest with the people and not take advantage of the ones they visit in search of their picks. The pawn shops know that they have people pathetically at their mercy and will give them next to nothing if they can get away with it.
I find the show about Storage Wars to be interesting though. If only we could ever know the stories behind the abandoned storage units.

8. Picking was going dead anyways since people found out what their stuff was worth on Ebay. Now Ebay |
|
is also slow. People do not have a lot of money and if they do, they don't buy pinball machine, etc..... they buy food, pay for gas, etc......

9. yeah, you're right about that |

I guess they're trying to make it impossible for even resourceful people to make any money... unless they're in the club.
