Screw one in, and change the world! Compact fluorescent bulbs are a great way to lower your energy consumption, thereby making your own small dent in greenhouse gas emissions! And they're cheaper than ever these days, so saving electricity has gotten simpler. Spread the word! http://www.cafepress.com/tulsatees/2586407"> http://www.cafepress.com/tulsatees/2586407

2. i suspect you haven't tried many |

there are many colors of CF bulbs, from 2000 kelvin (incandescent bulb color) to 6500k (cool blue, good for growing plants) and everything in between. Many people were put off of CF bulbs due to some manufactures marking already in production plant bulbs (5000-6500) down and selling them. If you want the traditional color, look for 1500 to 2500 bulbs.

Yep, I believe that's what we're using as well. They're not all "eerie"! :7 The light is pretty close to a traditional incandescent bulb. There are lots of colors and "shades" of CFs, and some of them are a bit bluish and industrial-looking. But the selection has definitely improved in the last couple of years, and price isn't nearly what it used to be.

5. you must be using different ones than i |

i was hesitant a few years ago to change to the compact fluorescents because i have always hated the harshness of regular old style fluorescents. i think the glow of the compact fluorescents is softer and far more mellow than a plain old 75 watt bulb.

3. I've got them throughout our house. BUT...! |
|
My wife hates the color (as stated above). I just found a "daylight" bulb at Mennards that she likes much better.
And then there's the mercury problem. Don't break them, and you better be damned responsible in desposing of them.
