I just hope the rest of the country remembers what happened the last time a swaggering dimwit from Texas got into office.

"Forrest Wilder of the Texas Observer appeared on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show to discuss the New Apostolic Reformation, a evangelical Christian group that sees Texas Gov. Rick Perry as their chance to overtake the U.S. government."
As I said in another thread: These are enemy combatants.

4. Can you imagine what election day will be like if this guy is the gop nominee? |
|
There will be fruitcakes outside all the polling stations that lean Democratic wailing and praying. It will be quite the show. I, for one, don't think this country can take much more of this nonsense.

6. The video gave the only pan-shots I've seen of stadium attendance at Perry's Pray-o-matic |
|
last weekend. There's hardly anyone in the stands, and since the floor only had about 3.5K chairs, attendance certainly couldn't have exceeded 10K and probably wasn't much over the 7K pre-registered
So at least that's good news ...

7. My ability to deal with crazies is wearing down! |
|
I talked with a Tea Party member yesterday who has been on disability for depression for at least 15 years which means she is supported by the taxpayers. Doesn't that make her a 'slacker' in her own group? Yet they'd take away my public sector pension that I worked for for over 30 years in a heartbeat if they could. Yup, I'm the bad guy who is expecting something for nothing! They are too stupid to see the irony in their own situations.

|
these same people that wrap themselves in the flag and proclaim they are constitutionalists are the biggest threat to the constitution that we have seen in over 200 years.

21. Meh. Perry's obviously hoping to snag the rightwing authoritarian religious extremists |
|
into his Presidential bid: that's a pretty reliable Republican constituency in the last 30 years, and Perry certainly wants them on his side for the primary season. And AFA effectively declared its support for Perry by underwriting his "prayer" diorama in Houston last week. Having hitched their wagon to his star, the AFA is going to dog-whistle furiously to the rightwing authoritarian religious extremists, in hopes of pushing Perry to the top: their political credibility in Republican circles depends on that right now
But I don't think they can succeed
It's always worth tracking these people of course, since they are dangerous if they have influence in high places. I worried a LOT about the Dominionists and other such wackos in the Bush era: you can check the DU archives to check that. But I'm not inclined to hyperventilate when they're out of power. And, frankly, the weirdness of the Bush years scared enough people for Americans to elect as President a black man with a very odd name. The Republicans increasingly built a political coalition from extremists, and I expect it will bite them hard now: hardly anybody wants another ill-informed rightwing extremist as our next President

14. You can take your pick of the various GOP Presidential candidates appealing to religiously insane. |
|
Which ones actually believes their own campaign drivel? Will they continue to and actually act on what they say to their fundamentalist base if they arrive in office or act like typical politicians and throw them under the bus? As a Democrat I am willing to take the GOP at their word more than I can say for my own Democratic party. Due to growing disenchantment I will continue to vote Democratic out of utter disgust of Republicans.
I like Bill Mahers "Donner Party" idea as a counter balance to Tea Party crazy I just am not willing to eat them before they eat us. Considering Perry, Bachmann, Romney, Palin and the other various nutcases makes feel like I have been barking at a Pine Cone for 9 hours.
