A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were at a small gathering where most of the people in attendance were strangers to us. My wife hates that. I like it, because I like talking to random people. Generally I can find something to say about most subjects and can find something to learn from what others say about that subject. My wife, on the other hand, prefers to talk to people who are familiar to her and with whom she has shared experiences.
Anyhow, at this gathering, I found myself in a conversation with someone I didn't know. After some introductory banalities, like "What do you do?" and "What brought you to Minnesota?" and "How about those lousy Vikings?", this person launched into a "testimony" about how she'd found Jesus. Now, that's an old story, and I have heard it before from a number of people, so I didn't see what I was going to be able to learn from this person or what I information I might be able to share with her that she'd find interesting or of value.
Eventually, her "testimony" wound down. I stayed there because it was the polite thing to do, so I had heard her out. She ended her soliloquy with, "So what do you believe?"
I said, "I believe my wife is beckoning to me, so I believe I'll go over to see what she wants." That's what I believed at that moment, so I acted on it.
