Poll question: Ahellism, Monohellism, Polyhellism |
|
One of way of characterizing religious beliefs is by the number of gods in the belief system. Atheists believe in zero gods, monotheists believe in one god, polytheists believe in many gods.
Another way of characterizing religious beliefs is by the number of hells in the belief system. Ahellists believe in zero hells, monohellists believe in one hell, polyhellists believe in many hells.
Example: Buddhism is an atheist polyhellist religion, because it has zero gods and many hells.

Not in a religious sense, but because everyone creates their own private hell.

Theological hell is pretty unimaginative. Anyone that has ever studied Anatolia in WW1 knows what "hell" actually is.

9. What about the torture chambers in Bagdad and Quantanamo? |
|
You're saying the innocent people who were set up and sent there deserved it?

10. No, I'm saying there is no hell, but on this earth which we make ourselves. |
|
Innocents being tortured is hellish, but it is not hell. Hell is a mythical construct. Gitmo was built by men.

12. Hell is internal, not external. There is not place with a sign that says |
|
Welcome to Hell - Pop. 12 billion.
The only hell that exists is in the mind of the individual. Anything else is metaphysical bullshit.

13. I'm a Buddhist Atheist who thinks "Hell" is a state of mind. |
|
So many people make their life into a hell, and make the lives of others into a hell, because of the attitudes they have. They let the the basic physical drive to find pleasure become addiction and greed. They let the basic physical drive to avoid pain lead to hatred.
