I'm really enjoying this season. I wondered last week if some of the ultra righty religious nuts weren't "getting off" watching the torture of the poor guy they had in captivity whom they were exhorting to "repent." It was pretty strong.

5. He is seeing 2 kinds of "true belief" - Mos Def's character

and the Olmos/Hanks characters are true believers. They all believe but 2 of the 3 have a warped sense of their beliefs. Mos has disciples, so to speak (in the men he helps) and so does Olmos - in Hanks.

The father figure (a God as father) is on display - James Remar (Harry), Mos Def, Olmos.....Dexter was Harry's disciple, in a lot of ways...as Harry trained Dexter in how not to get caught and gave him a code to live by in his path as a serial killer of (other) "bad" people.


and the important one to Dexter - Dexter/Harrison.

Even the "tooth fairy killer" played a role in this....what the son will believe of the father after death.

I kinda have an idea on how it will play out but..who knows?

when dex saw the kid/killer in the greenhouse, why didn't he ask him any questions? it seems he will just walk away.

7. That isn't Dexter's style (to my thinking). Dexter researches then acquaints himself.

Besides, it was a crime scene, filled with cops....Dexter would have drawn attention to himself and his future victim if he had approached Hanks at the scene.

Dexter has to be careful with this one...Olmos's character is smart. Dexter has a tendency to let his quest for answers cloud his judgement...often putting Dexter into positions where he could be harmed. He always gets out but not without some close calls. (loss/ deaths...Rita/the kids)

Since Dexter's questions center mainly on what to teach Harrison - on what legacy he leaves his son - Dexter is more vulnerable because of his limitations. He loves his son. Will the code be enough to ward him and Harrison against the potential dangers of "true belief"?

Mos Def's character is offering a balance and I think that will help Dexter in thinking it all out....but I also think there's more to Mos Def's character than we are seeing now.

Dexter is limited in his knowledge of religion - which will also put him behind the curve in this case. Mos Def can help in that regard. The new detective just might become the new "Doakes" - a thorn in Dexter's side....but he is smart and he does know enough religion to reference the intent of the killers.

Dexter is looking for a father figure still...something to consider with this storyline. (God, the father...etc..) The loss of Harry is something Dexter is still trying to deal with...

John Lithcow (Trinity Killer) was someone Dexter was hoping could shed some insights into "how to appear normal"...how to balance it all.

the ones who get away. these killers could still be apprehended and convicted. if dex goes after them prematurely, it could be his swan song. and do you really think he will take on two of them?

Also, they intrigue him. One, for their beliefs (and Dexter is exploring that topic)..and two...because Olmos (the end time Professor) is smart. (and Dexter, typical of all serial killers, wants to be the smartest)

Besides...they are polluting up his city. And, just wait for it - but they will come after him.


Also, remember the Julia Stiles character? (Lumen) The police were in pursuit of the multiple rape suspects - but Dexter and Stiles got them first. Debra walks in on them killing the last one - the head guy/motivational speaker (another father/disciples dynamic) - but doesn't see who it is doing the killing...and lets them go. Dexter will kill the bad guy prior to any arrest. Dexter just needs to know they're guilty. He doesn't need a jury verdict.

22. I've been watching this show since the first season.

I usually do not watch shows that are this gross/gory, but with the great writing and characters this show hooked me right away. I find the spiritual theme this year to be quite interesting. It's something totally different for Dexter.
