The history of religion in America: Has there been too much government intervention? |
|
In the absence of government intervention, there is supposed to be innovation. Although new translations of the Bible are made, a lot of different religious institutions use what is basically the same Bible, without deleting much, and without adding anything new.

2. That's not government's problem. And no public "supposed to be" either. |

For better or, likely, worse.

that government regulation stifles innovation is Right Wing bullshit that doesn't belong on DU. Trying to shoe horn it into religion is even more absurd.

4. Would you say that the phrase "latest scam" is an oxymoron? |
|

If the latest scam is anything other than an exact replica of an older scam, then it involves some degree of innovation. If a scam is innovative, and if it's possible for regulatory agencies to enforce regulations against innovative scams that, despite being somewhat innovative, are nevertheless prohibited by existing regulations, then governments do indeed stifle at least some kinds of innovations.
If you are passionately dedicated to the notion that nothing religious can be a scam, then I can see why it wouldn't occur to you that an innovative scam could be an appropriate topic for a forum dedicated to religion.
Of course, there is no fixed thing that always was, always is, and always will be an innovation. Something is an innovation when it is introduced. Eventually, it is no longer considered to be an innovation. Do you believe that the Koran wasn't created, but is co-eternal with God? In that case, I can understand why you might consider it absurd to apply the concept "innovation" to religion, especially if you believe that the Koran is the most important example of a religious text. What always was cannot be a new development.

whether it is a scam or not, is one thing. Your OP about government regulation is still ridiculous, and just aping a GOP talking point.
