Fletcher baseball coach charged with assaulting umpire

FLETCHER — An assistant baseball coach was charged with assault Saturday after he punched a 16-year-old umpire during a youth baseball game, according to the Police Department.

Samuel Cody, 37, was charged with assault on a sports official and ordered by the magistrate not to be in Fletcher Park, according to a press release from the police department. Cody posted a $100 secured bond, and his court date is set for July 28. He could not be reached for comment.

The press release said the disturbance “appears to have been the result of a coach arguing a call made by an umpire during a game.
