he pulled the string on that one. Sox threatening with 2 on 1 out.

A classic Red Sox/Yankee nail biter. I think Rivera's save got blown by the rookie at 3rd, but such is the way the ball bounces... :-)

21. This whole series was a good argument for a second Wild Card |
|
Both these teams are going to make the playoffs. Heck, the Yankees lead the WC by 7 games..So, basically these clubs are playing out the string not caring a whole lot who wins the AL East because there is no real reward for winning the division as opposed to taking the WC. Meanwhile, the rest of the AL has less to play for because the Yankees/Sox loser already has that one lone WC spot locked up...

22. I think you're wrong by saying they don't care a lot about winning the Division |
|
I think they care a great deal. Either team would love to beat the other to that title.
I wish there was a way to eliminate the WC completely. Win your division or go play golf. But that's hard to do with only three divisions. Oh well.

They are talking about a three game wild card series.
All that does is make the other teams cold.
There should be only two divisions in each league. One LCS. Why the fuck do they play 162 games for anyway?
This ain't the NBA or NHL.

the fewer playoff spots there are, the more the big money teams will dominate. We would see the same teams in the playoffs year, after year, after year.

27. I saw a suggestion I liked the other day... |
|
It was to add a second WC and make WC1 and WC2 play for the 4th playoff spot in a 1-game matchup. It makes the WC a lot less appealing if you know that it means that one bad game-163 sends you home; I don't like the 3-game match-up proposal because I think it makes the WC disadvantage too insignificant.
I'd like to add another hitch to that, I think it should be an afternoon game the day before the LDS begins. Win and you've got to get on a plane and start your LDS the next night. I think that makes the Division crown much more valuable...being a WC becomes a severe disadvantage in the playoffs: 5+ games in a row between the end-of-season, play-in and LDS and an LDS opponent with a better record playing with 2 days rest over the same span.

25. Sure they care about beating each other.. |
|
but face it, since both teams are virtually guaranteed a playoff spot, winning the AL East is only about bragging rights and nothing more. It's a bad situation when the one WC almost always goes to the AL East..and it's particularly troublesome this year when the WC is already decided with 2 months still to go. It's bad for baseball.
I was against expansion of the playoffs, but no longer..
