The college football season will wrap up a lot earlier this season.
I'm talking about November 5, when Alabama and LSU play. I can't recall when I've ever seen two more dominant teams from the same conference, much less the same division of one conference. Either of those two teams would run roughshod over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Clemson, Boise State, or any of the other undefeated teams out there. There is simply not another defense that plays at the level of either LSU or Alabama. Not another team that plays more physical football. Not another team that is as complete. It's really a tragedy for the SEC that these two teams are here in the same year - if either of these teams had come along next year, then the SEC would extend its national championship streak to seven years instead of the six that will surely happen this year.

No one else compares. After these two teams play, it's all over. The SEC Championship game will be a 28+ point rout. The bowl game will be at least a 17 point win for either Alabama or LSU (unless it happens to work out that the two play). In 2005, there was Texas, USC, and everyone else. This year, it's Alabama and LSU, and it's just a shame that they have to play during the regular season.

1. I'd put Oklahoma in the mix right now.
The jury's still out on the rest. I think we have a better than average chance of seeing these two teams playing again for the NC in January.
As it should be.

2. Oklahoma has an offense...
and a hell of a defense. It just sucks royally that if OU wins out, they have to play one of those teams down in hill-billy-land, erm I mean Louisiana (hehehe). There was an article out a few weeks ago about the BCS blues, which have been overstated according to the Big 12 blog dude.
OU played Florida in the national championship...in Florida (10 points).
OU lost to LSU in the championship...in New Orleans (a touchdown)
Yes they got murdered by USC in Florida- no excuse there for playing like crap.

Boise State was a quality loss, in OT, by a point.
OU got killed by West Virginia. So? West Virginia's usually good.

OU looks quite good this year, even when they play like crap. What's best is that they play it cool when the game gets close, especially in the 4th. That's a huge deal.

6. I was shaking my head at this a little earlier today.

Not at your assessment of Oklahoma (who does have a pretty formidable team that just had a ton of things go wrong tonight), but at the idea that Alabama and LSU would get to play again. However, with Wisconsin and Oklahoma going down, the odds just got a lot better on that one. Here are the schedules for the remaining unbeatens.

LSU

at Alabama
Western Kentucky
Ole Miss
Arkansas

Alabama

LSU
at Mississippi State
Georgia Southern
at Auburn

OK, so one of these two teams will knock the other from the unbeatens. Right now, I think that LSU has a slightly better offense, and their defense is as good as Alabama's. Thing is, LSU still has to play Arkansas, and some really strange things have happened with that rivalry. Nevertheless, I think that LSU goes unbeaten, gets to the SEC Championship Game, and beats the SEC East representative into wet rags.

Oklahoma State

Baylor
Kansas State
at Texas Tech
at Iowa State
Oklahoma

Hard to see Oklahoma State running this table. Of their remaining opponents, I think their only easy game is Iowa State. I think Kansas State will get them.

Boise State

at UNLV
TCU
at San Diego State
Wyoming
New Mexico

Boise State isn't going to be beaten. I wish they played a tougher schedule, but they are a very good team. I think they'd be a real threat to win just about any conference or division with the exception of the SEC West. Yes, I think they'd win the SEC East this year.

Clemson

at Georgia Tech
Wake Forest
at NC State
at South Carolina

Clemson may struggle with Tech, but the game with South Carolina will be a lot easier given that Lattimore is out for the season. Clemson has a great chance to go unbeaten.

Stanford

at USC
at Oregon State
Oregon
Cal
Notre Dame

I think that Oregon will upset Stanford in Autzen.

Kansas State

Oklahoma
at Oklahoma State
Texas A&M
at Texas
Iowa State

Just like Oklahoma State, the only "gimme" game left on this schedule is Iowa State. They'll drop at least one.

Houston

Rice
at UAB
at Tulane
SMU
at Tulsa

Really, who cares here? Houston isn't getting into the BCS championship game. Period.

If I had to guess right now, I'd guess that we'll see LSU take on Clemson or Boise State for the national championship. I actually think that Boise State would put up a better game. Moore is a fantastically accurate QB and their defense is a good one.

8. Well, that changes things somewhat.
Oregon does play better at home - but I still think they're good enough to upset Stanford.

3. Hmmmn...
Texas Tech 24, Oklahoma 7 at the half.

And if Oklahoma survives and manages to play for it all down in hillbilly land, there remains one important question: would they notice it to be any different from Norman?

I'm never going to hear the end of this from El Supremo or my stupid Buckeye fan neighbors.

(And I'm kidding, I love New Orleans)

5. Well...
Your team did almost stage one hell of a comeback. And fuck the Buckeyes. They've been bent over a lot worse in the BCS than you have, and had to cheat to win.

9. Stanford is a nightmare matchup for either SEC team
Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 07:16 PM by Awsi Dooger
Alabama and LSU rely on defensive intimidation, which would be effortlessly nullified by Stanford with three of the best offensive players in the country. It's laughable that so few fans realize how talented they are. Two of their offensive linemen will be premier NFL draft picks, high first round.

Stanford is smart, cocky and relentless, going for the throat every week. They take the Jimmy Johnson mindset to a new level.

The SEC will probably be Lucky enough to avoid Stanford. At least the opponent won't be Oklahoma, which is an annual fraud. Their pass defense is poor every season, at least by BCS standards, as I've pointed out for years. Only in 2000 did Oklahoma have a Top 10 defense in YPPA allowed, and hardly a coincidence it was the one time their defense held up in a title game, upsetting FSU.

The Big 12 is a finesse conference with woeful defense. I can't believe so few fans see through it, and are dazzled by the offensive garbage. Boise State would be a considerably more difficult matchup for the SEC winner than Oklahoma or Oklahoma State.

10. trying to figure out
how Stanford is even ranked in the top ten. They've played what, two teams with winning records? KState should be ranked ahead of them.

As for NFL prospects, 2 or 3 is nice, but Bama has TEN on defense who are going in the first five rounds.
