Packers' Pat Lee also ejected; media ignores |
|
What do the Lions' Ndamukong Suh and the Packers' Pat Lee have in common?
Both were ejected yesterday. And deservedly so.
But you wouldn't know that Lee was ejected was also ejected during the game. The media has focused so heavily on Suh's misconduct, yet Lee seems to be getting a free pass.
Have you heard anyone in the media talking about Lee's ejection? I saw one blip in USA Today, but that was it.
This seems to be a symptom of an issue that transcends sports - that is, the media's general disgust with one of the hardest-working, grittiest, truly American cities in the country. We see it playing out in the news media, and here the sports media is joining them in this.
If the media (both the sports and non-sports media) thought as highly of Detroit as they do other cities, Lee's ejection would be making headlines too.
But at least Detroit can take comfort in knowing that their sports teams have won nearly twice as many championships as Green Bay's. ;-)

;)
That said, Lee deserved to be disqualified, although his actions were born of the frustration of (what I like to call) extreme double team. For a second there it looked like old film of the "Black and Blue" division, when players came up swinging.
I support the Lions, because I have to (in my mind, for my son), Suh's actions went over the line. I have defended him here, and on NFL.com and the Free Press. You can't defend that action anymore. While, at first, it was media generated "Detroit is a Dirty Team" crap, Suh's doing a great job of proving them right. FWIW, the Packers are a small town team, from small town, hard as Detroit working America. There's nothing "special" there. They are both Mid West teams.
And, for a bit of added smack, how awesome would Green Bay be if they were allowed a publicly owned MLB, MLS, NBA and NHL team? It'd be madness...seeing as all of their titles come from just. one. team. :D Go, Pack Go...and Go Lions!

2. Indeed, why there was no call on the clear, repeated penalties against Lee is bizarre. |
|
There is no comparison to the Suh's ugly attack, which is yet another in a trend of attacks by Suh.
This OP is complete BULLSHIT!

Watch the play. It was not the usual. It was not two guys getting in front and around him. It was two guys grabbing him from behind, holding him at length, grabbing his face mask... It was pitiful to watch. Nevermind, that if Lee is ejected then Berry should have been gone, too.

I've never been to the games and see it myself. I've never watched pro football and see those gunners have exactly the same thing done to them that was done to Lee. Instead, it's the Packers that have all the horrible shit done to them and not one single ref cares about it. That's more likely.

41. I wasn't using that to say I knew it all. |
|
I assume many here played or have kids that play football. My statement about my son was in response to "well, Aikman said it was a penalty, so there." He played QB. I don't find him very insightful on the plight of the punt gunner--a position he wasn't even on the field for when he did play. Aikman could tell me a lot about QB and WR and probably how the O-Line goes about blocking. But if he is going to tell me what a D-End goes through trying to get through the line, then I'm going to listen to someone that plays that position even if it is HS ball.
I offered my son only as a response to that. Someone who played that position saying what it was like. It seems like your son realizes that they don't call those penalties all that often either. So I'm sure Lee has gone through it before and should have been able to handle himself.

I am not saying that what Lee did was comparable to what Suh did, but that was all on Lee. He shouldn't have reacted the way he did. He's a gunner on a punt kick--grow a thicker skin.

If Lee was as big a star as Suh, had his history of penalties and fines, and had publicly met with the commissioner about his style of play and league rules a few weeks ago, then Lee's ejection might get equal time in the media.

10. I'd have agreed with you a couple of weeks ago, but the two situations |
|
yesterday were completely different. Years isn't going to make a difference here. Things are the same as they ever were. The Packers are not a coastal team so bias doesn't come in to play here. If anything, there are more people in my little corner of Texas who were cheering for the Lions, and not the Packers. Suh is squandering that good will. And besmirching the character of the entire team, as evidenced by some of the comments in this thread. It has nothing to do with feelings about Detroit, in this case. I lived there for 27 years, and love that city with all my heart.
