The preseason ranking wasn't really out of line. They lost their best runner against Kansas State, the leading receiver in Division I history against Texas A&M. They've had a couple of injuries on the O-line and the defense has been depleted by injury since before hte season started.

Given the injuries and the preseason expectations, I can't remember a more disappointing season, personally. But even taking the injuries into account, tonight is an embarrassment. Aggies are just kicking their ass up and down the field, no two ways about it. It's a whipping to rival some of the whippings Mack Brown has taken in the RRS over the years.

58. I agree. The defense has been mediocre at best for a while now.

And the team has had very poor form tackling for several years now. I remember the early oughts when we were known for defense. Seems like a distant memory. I think something has to change on the defensive side of the ball.

When I was in Mexico watching the games in '08 I said that Venables should go. I've stuck to that since then. He is killing the team.

We've been killed on kick coverage for the last few years.

Venables is apparently up for some of the Head Coaching positions that are open. I'd love to see him get one. I think that's the only way he goes, because I doubt Bob will fire him.

One more thing I think is worth looking into is our strength and conditioning program. We've been good in the second half for most of this year, and that speaks well to our conditioning. But it seems to me that for the last four or five years we've suffered more injuries than most teams do. I know injuries are part of football, but the level at which we've lost players just seems out of whack to me--even before this year, which has, of course, been horrendous for injuries.

I'd be happy to see LJ go. But I have my doubts that he will. At the least, I hope (and think we will) we see a wide open competition in spring practice.
