I've studied stats for more than 25 years. Nothing changed appreciably in football until Tutu Goodell's era. Now I've had to throw out trends that worked as far back as I evaluated them, 1978. It's become a pantyhose wimp league, with Steve Young saying on ESPN that the position of safety is almost unplayable. This season there were 34 games of 300+ yards passing after 3 weeks. The previous high was 21.

Unless you look at numbers I don't think it's as glaring as it should be. The media certainly doesn't emphasize it enough. When teams like Green Bay and New England go on these long stretches of scoring 30+ in virtually every game, it's unprecedented and demonstrates what a street ball farce the sport has become. Any Given Sunday is a long gone myth, with an untouchable premier quarterback worth more than ever. Running backs have so little value the best ones drop to late first round and few teams are willing to invest at that point. Yet Atlanta is willing to give up a ton to move up and draft receiver Julio Jones.

The two players left the bench. the rule is clear, you can't leave the bench during an altercation or you get suspended. If they had any self control, they would have been fine.

As for Phoenix's winning the title that year, it's not even clear they'd have won the series. Note that no D'Antoni team has ever actually done well in the playoffs, where defense is king.

Horry was trying for a foul, but it did not appear that he was trying to make a hard foul. It appeared that he was tired, and timed his contact wrong. Further, Nash did play it up.

Now, can we cut the "you're David Stern" crap?

I wasn't very good, but I played a lot of sports. I did learn that most athletes are entitled assholes, though.

And they weren't in the game, they were on the bench. Rules are rules, as you admit downthread. You apparently think the rules don't apply in certain cases.

It also didn't cost Phoenix the series. It wasn't a one game series, it was a seven game series. They had plenty of chances to win.

IMO, Horry's being suspended for two games was overkill. It was just a hard foul that wouldn't even have drawn a technical if Nash wasn't so good at flopping.

Finally, as I mentioned elsewhere in this thread, what was Stern's motive to slant things San Antonio's way? Did he think a high scoring team wouldn't draw the amazing ratings the Spurs were known to draw? Do I need to add a sarcasm smiley here?

Former lead of the Brewers, took part time for commisioner and is now commissioner. Stupid idea of his for having all star game decide home field advantage for world series. Put in motion current playoff fiasco, to make it more intersting. Next is adding more teams, with a 1 game playoff to decide playof spots
ALL he cares about is $$$$$$. The more games the more $$$$$.

Take all the money, divide it evenly between the teams, small, middle and large venues. THEN see sho has the best famr system without having to BUY people to win them games.
THIS would also STOP the INSANE contracts offered to men who play a game they love for $$$$$.
WHile hes at it STOP the stupid AL DH rule as well. IT only allows men to use half of their talent LONGER thereby earning HIGHER $$$$$ once more.

$$$$$ will soon ruin this game.

11. Selig is a douche but not for those reasons - especially the DH.

1) He ignored the PHD scandal for years. All the records are now fucked.
2) I agree that the contacts are out of hand and the revenue sharing is also done wrong. But I also blame Tom Hicks for paying Stray-Rod that ungodly amount. He finally payed for it, but Selig hasn't.
3) The home team thing for the All-Star game is minor in comparison.
4) And I love the DH! I hate seeing pitchers bat.

I'd say Stern is the worst, but Selig is the worst historically. Selig is not quite as bad as he once was, but Stern has gone from ok to horrific.

Oddly, as I say that, I realize that Stern has always been scum. He allowed "the Jordan rules" to flourish, and it has taken a great deal from the game.
