Death of the Gods (a 99 word short story) |
|
The frozen eternity of space and time stretched endlessly before her, now mere phantoms reflected from eyes untouched by sympathy. She was the last of her kind. The last sentient being that would ever exist. In the vastness of time, they had lost their way. Hope flowed to scholarship and wisdom. The quickening of science. It did not bring the answers they sought, but redefined and multiplied their questions instead. Magic disappeared. Nihilism followed, and apocolypse. Unsustained, the cosmos faded. She closed her eyes, now sightless and indifferent, and all that ever was, or would be, ceased to exist.

My first thought was Robert F. Young and then Ray Bradbury and then a story I read long ago concerning A Tibetan prayer wheel where as it spun one by one the stars flicked out (Paraphrase).
But this is 'brainpan' and a very poetic story.

Nice word-pictures, if that makes sense. Your few words conjure up beautiful pictures.
I'd love to read more of your work, too.
Welcome to DU!
