Unpublished writers! Interested in starting an on-line literary magazine? |
|
Oh, this can be for UNDER-published writers as well.
My basic idea--a quarterly on-line literary magazine essentially to try and get our work out there. Doesn't have to be fancy or slick, but somewhat professional.
I'd be willing to coordinate it--I wouldn't be the editor, because I don't see it as having an editor. As a group we can ask others within the group to proof our work or give feedback. We simply have our stuff printed each quarter, whether it be fiction or poetry, novel excerpts or short shorts. Any style is appropriate. As I said, it would be to get our stuff out there. We could e-mail it (or the link) to literary agents, publishing houses, etc. Included with our articles would be our e-mail contacts. I see this online venture as our way of getting people to read our work. We could promote it here, and any other sites where we post (daily kos comes to mind). Sooner or later someone is bound to read this. The more we promote it, the better chance we have of someone taking an interest.
Anyway, the idea hit me only the past few days. What do you think? I assume most of you already have stuff you could contribute, and that's the hard work, and that's already done? Takers?
Let me know your thoughts. One thing--I don't see this starting until Februrary with the holidays coming up--most of us are too busy, and quite frankly,so is everyone else who might read this. We need a window when they're more likely to have the time to read this.

I think that is a great idea. after trying to find an agent here in michigan (not many here that is for sure) I think that something like that would be fantastic, at least the powers that be might take the time to review the writing there and who knows maybe some of us might be able to get past the invisible wall of having to have an agent before a publisher r looks at what you have.and some of the agents that consistently say that you have to have a published piece before they will conceder you. I find that very frustrating when your from a small town and really haven't the opportunity's to seek out someone that will take the time to see what you can or can not do. I would welcome such a venue if anything to get my work out there.

Actually, I thought there'd be more of a response to this by now. The good thing about this writing forum is that this post will stay near the top for the next month or so--in other words, the forum isn't used that often!
Have any ideas about what I mentioned--starting in February, what you might contribute, etc.

I might be interested. I write nonfiction and creative nonfiction.
My hesitation comes from the fact that many venues will not consider previously published work and anything we publish on this potential web-based literary magazine would be considered "previously published," which means that I would have to carefully consider which pieces I would submit to the web-based magazine. Just something to think about.

4. From my persepctive, I'm trying to get a novel published, |
|
so getting short stories out there is simply to get people to read what I can (or can't--yikes!) write.
Perhaps you have some stories you couldn't get published--like them, but had trouble having them "fit" into any of the magazines out there?

And after the holidays would be the best time. It might just be the thing I need to prod me into getting back into writing more seriously.
Thank you for posting this......much appreciated!

Along with bunches of other things....but I do enjoy writing, when I can force myself to sit down and actually do it....
Did you read my piece downthread? "The Game."
I'm thinking of incorporating it into a longer more complex piece...

|
...I like it, and I like that you put in your subject a warnign about it being explicit--sure way to get attention!
As to incorporating it into a larger piece--a novel, or a longer short story? How long ago did you write it?

9. I was told that I HAD to have the warning ........in case anyone might |
|
be offended...
Glad you liked it......I wrote this recently, a couple of months ago.
I don't think I'm up for a novel.....But I can definitely see this as part of a short story, or a novella.
It IS fiction, BTW.....

I doubt anyone here would have been offended, but, then again, I'm always surprised at what some people take offense to!

:hi:
I haven't posted in the writing group before, but I do read it. And I think I might like to partiticpate.
I like to write sometimes, mostly for my own amusement. But yeah, I think I'd appreciate the feedback, at least.

19. Though I don't have anything publishable yet, I would be interested |

in such an endeavor. I'm working on a novel so I'm not sure how much time I'd have for other things, but it would certainly give me some motivation to tackle a few ideas I have for short stories.

I'm swamped until the middle of March probably, but I'd like to help either by contributing work or editing (okay, you said no editors but I really want to get into editing, LOL) or whatever comes up.
good idea!
