now now, this is a free advert for this incredible Open Office unit. Folks I am about to put the fianl touches on the CORE book of the game I am writing. I used Open Office to lay it out and if you need to do light DTP, this is the aplication to go with ... did I mention it is essentially free?

1. That's all I use. I have no problem dealing with M$ files in either direction. |
|
Well, one exception - bullets and numbers. M$ just doesn't know how to deal with them when it gets a file from another WP program (this has been true since it came out). That's an M$ problem, not OO. StarOffice had some compatibility issues, but OO is amazing, and fast to load. I use it on Windows, Linux, and Mac and the files are completely compatible between all three.
Oh, FREE IS GOOD!

2. I've had issues keeping some font formatting the same. |
|
When I go back and forth between, I've noticed that I'll lose special characters or sometimes italics will disappear. I've learned to be patient, though, and go back to the original WP program. Usually it all reappears there so I don't have to go through and reformat everything.
