but one thing left me scratching my head. What did Ming mean when she said, "Now get change." Did she mean she thought the two quarters Female Character #3 gave her was more than 50 cents? Just one more comment: As a feminist maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I don't like it when women are referred to as "broads." http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=20000612

Ming's character traits are still unfolding. If I explain her actions, I blow my load, so to speak. :) Seriously, with certain actions, I leave it up to the audience to decide the meaning. And as you find out more about her, some things may clarify, while other aspects may become more mysterious. If you take it at face value, the price was $5, she was given 50 cents, and she indicates she will now get change. The problem is, if you take it at face value before most of the story has unfolded, it could well be misleading.
Re: "broads", the term serves the sitcom's story lines (I hope the blog's readers will bear with me on this). It's not any indication of how I personally feel about women. Perhaps frame it under the guise of "those wacky broads". It's a comedy. It's not 100% politically correct.
Think of part of the approach I'm taking as "reverse progressivism"--pretending to be regressive but in reality pushing progressive messages.
I really do appreciate your input.
