              So, how goes the school teachin'?  Do ya
              at least got the kids practicin' what ya
              teach?
 
    LULA JO half-laughs.
 
                        BEULAH
                  (sneers)
              Yeah, she's teachin' sex techniques to
              the teenyboppers.
 
    LULA JO acts appalled, then cackles.
 
                        BETTY
                  (speaks with heavy breath)
              Momma, someone has to teach them to be
              responsible.  Many of them are going to
              do it anyway, so I teach them about doing
              it safely.
 
                        BEULAH
              We didn't need none of this sex education
              back in the day.  Everyone back then
              lived by God's truth that kids don't do
              it if they don't know about it...
 
    CLOSE UP on BEULAH's face.  BEULAH feeds herself some
    oatmeal.  Oatmeal appears on her face surrounding her mouth.
 
                        BEULAH (CONT'D)
              ...They're better off dumb.
 
    STILL IN CLOSE UP, BETTY's hand reaches across BEULAH's face
    with a wet washcloth, and wipes off her face in one stroke.
