This is my first blank verse poem. Outside of an occasional haiku, this is my first poem since middle school. I wanted to share this with y'all and see what you thought.
The False Patriots
They wrap the Stars and Stripes around themselves Like it's a priceless blanket or a cape. The American flag is much more than A symbol, or one party's God-given Creed to spead their ideology of Hatred, bigotry, and fascism and Call themselves defenders of liberty. They called me a communist? Hypocrites. They put up walls to keep invaders out But their companies will hire them to Perform jobs that we will not apply for. They cheer for resource wars as long as they Don't have to grab a gun and fight themselves. Those chickenhawks will talk a brave fight, But when the chips are down, they run like hell To seminaries, college, and Daddy, Screaming, "Please help me get out of the draft!" They don't support out troops. Need proof? Then why Do they propose a budget cut to slash VA benefits? Some veterans like John McCain, John Murtha and John Kerry know What defending freedom is all about. These three honorable men never questioned Max Cleland, who gave almost everything To defend our country in Vietnam. Those chickenhawks did. That's why I believe These false patriots hate America, The Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. Real patriots would never do these things.
