Gypsies Tramps and Thieves: installment 8 |

“The Club Baths Murder” As told by Forrest Baker In the late 70’s Tommy Nevin had gone to the Club Baths in the Tenderloin. Flush with cash from the sale of his abundant stash of Quaaludes, codeine, marijuana, and MDA; and tired out from days of partying, (having sucked a mile of dick, as Tommy put it) He checked into the bathhouse to clean up and relax, and possibly sell more drugs. He admitted later to having sold some codeine and MDA to a couple of “Tenderloin types” while at the bathhouse. Now. This ordinarily would have been the end of the story. But later that week Tom Mitchell read a notice in “Reverend Ray Broshears’ scandalous one man rag “The Gay Crusader”. It reported the murder of a young, out of town faggot, who was at the Tenderloin Club Baths. Seems he was suffocated during sex with two men who were high on drugs. When questioned by the police, the two men admitted buying drugs from a man that day, who was also at the bathhouse. Identifying the room the drug dealer was in; the police were able to find his name on the signup sheet. So the name Thomas Newman was reported as the accessory in this homicide, and information leading to his capture was requested. It seems Tommy’s scrawl was misread, because when questioned by Thomas Mitchell, and others, Tommy admitted to being at the baths that week, and to selling drugs to two men while there. Fate was on Tommy’s side that week for thru police never did track him down for that one. The FBI did get a bit closed in their pursuit of him for interstate bad checks, but that’s another story.
