What common writing exercises just do not work for you? |
|
There's a somewhat well-known poetry exercise invented by Jim Simmerman in the book, "Teaching Poetry" which I simply can't get into at all, mainly because it requires basically writing one line after another without really caring where you're going. I've also never gotten anywhere with the notorious "Exquisite Corpse" technique, although most of my writer friends really love that one.
Are there any commonly-proscribed brainstorming/freewriting exercises you have never been able to use productively?

Today I talked with the guys behind it, and they gave me some tips, so I will do that to see if I finally get the theory behind it.
